Finish Thompson manufactures a range of drum pumps to suit specific application needs, from high-performance pumps with double-suction impellers to provide high-flow and high-head, to pumps built with varying tough-duty materials to handle a wide range of fluids, including harsh acids and bases, to pumps designed to handle high viscosity liquids.

Materials of Construction

Drum and barrel pumps feature tubes constructed of various materials to enable you to match the pump construction materials to the fluids in the application. Most outer tubes are available in 316 stainless steel, PVDF, polypropylene (PP), CPVC, and pure polypropylene/ PVDF. Each of these materials offer different capabilities.

It’s important to keep the construction of the rest of the pump in mind as well. Any fluids that the pump transfers will come into contact with more than the outer tube only. Additionally, the pump’s external environment may be an important factor in the exterior materials and overall construction of the pump.

Motor Options

Each drum pump series is compatible with specific motors for optimal functioning. Many come with speed control to allow adjustment for precision flow.

When specifying a drum pump motor, be aware that certain motor types are better suited for some applications than others. Finish Thompson offers splash-proof/open drip proof motors (IP24), enclosed/TEFC motors (IP54/55), explosion-proof motors (IP54/55), air motors, and lithium ion battery motors (IP24).

Pump Series Selection

Specific series of pumps are designed for or have options for different types of applications. Some are designed to transfer large volumes of fluids in short periods of time while others are better suited to transferring small quantities. Some series do not offer options for pumping flammables or combustibles. Others are ideally suited for pumping viscous fluids or offer FDA-compliant options and are suitable for use in the food and beverage industry.

It is also important to consider the appropriate tube length required by the application.
