Sealless Magnetic Drive Pumps for Industrial Applications

Chemical transfers. Precision temperature controls. Cleaning solutions. Industrial settings involve myriad operations that require the safe handling of harsh, toxic or corrosive fluids. Not every piece of equipment is up to these tasks. Robust solutions are necessary to ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency. To meet these demands, Finish Thompson offers a complete line of sealless magnetic drive pumps and drum and barrel pumps that are designed to withstand the harshest environments.

Typical Applications

  • Provide flow and pressure to chillers and heat exchangers
  • Recirculate cleaning solutions to clean metal before painting, powder coating or plating
  • Secondary containment in chemical sump applications
  • Transfer chemicals and rinse waters from sumps
  • Transfer fluids from drums and IBCs (totes)
  • Transfer from bulk storage to process
  • Unloading of rail cars and tanker trucks

A CASE IN POINT

Finish Thompson Mag Drive Pumps Keep Flotation Therapy Center Afloat and Empowers Expansion

“Finish Thompson pumps allowed me to continue my existing business and expand into new verticals,” explains Tom Bazis, owner, and founder of Float SNJ.

“Finish Thompson pumps allowed me to continue my existing business and expand into new verticals,” explains Tom Bazis, owner, and founder of Float SNJ.

When you manufacture and operate flotation therapy pools, filtration and water quality are a high priority. “Filtration and water quality are the single most important aspect of providing our services,” says Tom Bazis, owner and founder of Float SNJ.

Established in 2013, Float SNJ was designed with the human experience in mind, to provide an environment that helps their guests heal and enhance their lives. However, equipment challenges were inhibiting those goals. Bazis encountered operational issues that were much more difficult than he could have anticipated.

The pumps he was using could not handle the supersaturated Epsom salt solution involved in their pool systems. Bazis admits, “The solution seemed to have a personal vendetta against me and destroyed nearly every piece of equipment we ran until I found Finish Thompson, Inc.”

When Float SNJ first opened, they were using a pool-style pump with a basket strainer and a 1.5hp motor. Bazis reports, “We quickly discovered after about three months that the salt was leaking across the seal faces and causing our motors to seize up. This caused significant challenges because we had to 1) buy additional pumps to swap out; 2) close the pools that were affected, leading to a loss of business; and 3) hire service companies to disassemble the pumps, replace the bearings and seals, and reassemble. Additionally, maintaining the water temperature is imperative to the service we provide, and we found that the sealed pumps were overheating the solution.”

A Better Way to Do Business

After a year of battling pump failures, Bazis began a search for equipment that could handle their processes. He learned that Finish Thompson provides a mag-drive, sealless pump that could eliminate leaks, and motor failures, and deliver greater efficiency as well as minimize added heat.

“We installed our first Finish Thompson model DB7P pump with a 3/4hp motor just over six years ago,” reports Bazis, “and it has not failed one single time. Not once! Since that point, we have switched every pump in our building to Finish Thompson pumps.”

“Finish Thompson pumps saved my business and my sanity,” explains Bazis.

Finish Thompson Pumps Empower Expansion

“We have always wanted to manufacture and install our floating solutions at other locations,” says Bazis, “but we could not do so knowing that the pumps we were using would fail constantly. Once we saw that we would not have any problems with the Finish Thompson pumps, it gave us the confidence to sell our float tanks.” Float SNJ has since installed eight units, helping thousands of people reduce their pain levels, improve their sleep, and improve their quality of life.

Bazis gratefully reports, “Finish Thompson allowed me to not only continue my existing business but expand into new verticals.”

Pump Details

Magnetically coupled, sealless centrifugal pumps. While NOT manufactured from FDA compliant materials, Finish Thompson DB Series and SP Series pumps are designed from the ground up to pump corrosive chemicals.
Features

  • No mechanical seal – Powerful rare earth magnetic drive system eliminates the troublesome mechanical seal.
  • Corrosion resistant – Engineered for the most aggressive liquids, manufactured from polypropylene or PVDF.
  • Run dry ability – Makes them less prone to operator error or system upset.
  • Self-priming option – SP Series pumps can lift fluid from as deep as 25 feet (7.6 meters) below the pump or can pull liquid out of the top of a tank eliminating through-the-sidewall bulkhead fittings.

Features

  • Multi-stage design – to produce much higher heads at lower flow rates than similarly sized single-stage pumps.
  • Performance – Heads up to 300 feet (91.5 meters) are possible, with a minimum flow rate of one gpm (0.23 m3/hr) and a maximum flow rate of 69 gpm (15.7 m3/hr).
  • No mechanical seal – Powerful rare earth magnetic drive system eliminates the troublesome mechanical seal.

Engineered for extreme reliability in the most extreme chemical processing applications, Finish Thompson’s ULTRAChem® pumps are magnetically driven, ANSI dimensional pumps. They are constructed from tough ductile iron with ETFE lining for superior corrosion resistance.
Features

  • Sealless design – Powerful neodymium magnets drive the impeller through a carbon-filled ETFE lined barrier for dependable, leak-free operation.
  • Fully supported shaft and self-aligning dual bushings – designed for optimum alignment to prevent premature wear.
  • Complete encapsulation of inner drive magnets in ETFE – for ultimate corrosion protection.

Finish Thompson drum pumps are extremely versatile and are not just for use in in drums. A wide range of tube lengths allow them to be used in drums, barrels, totes, IBCs (intermediate bulk containers) and other container sizes.
Features

  • PP, PVDF or 316SS tubes – Select based on your application
  • Built-in hose and cord clips – Specific models
  • ODP (open drip proof), TEFC and air motor drive options – lithium ion battery powered motor on select models
